CATAMARAN BUILD – We Bond the Hull Sides!! (MJ Sailing – Ep 200)Wow, can you believe we are hitting episode 200??!! It seems like just a few weeks ago that I started shyly picking up a camera as we were in the middle of the aluminum boat refit – not sure what I would say or if anyone would find it worth watching. But, nearly 5 years later, here we are!! Matt and I open the tent doors and fit on the nose cones to make sure everything is still aligned when we do the dry fits of the hull sides. Once it is determined that the way we’d set it up to bond still allows us to seamlessly put the cones on – it’s time to get to work. Our friends Brian and Summer make their way over to Kent Island just after sunrise on one cool morning, and with one test run and a lot of team work, we manage to get the starboard outer hull side on just within the 40-60 minute window we have to work with our methacrylate bonding agent. One side down and one to go!! *Fitting on the nose cones – filmed on July 15 *Bonding starboard hull side – filmed on July 18 We hope you enjoy!! Much love from Annapolis! Jessica, Matt & Georgie

CATAMARAN BUILD – We’re Running Out of Supplies!! (MJ Sailing – Ep 199)

We’re building our boat with vinyl ester resin – and they’re OUT nationwide!!

This week’s video is a smattering of a few different things, trying to catch up from when we were preparing the Pacemaker to launch (late June) to starting work on the floors of the catamaran (early July).

We also give away the Viking, which was a sad day, but we show you the transformation of when we first stepped foot on her last fall, to what she looks like when we hand her over.

Plus, we run into the issue that we can not get our hands on vinyl ester resin, so we need to find other projects to keep us busy, which do not involve it. Luckily, we can do the floors in a polyester resin instead. This will be a long process that *should* keep us busy for a few weeks, and Matt explains the technical side of how all floors will be water tight spaces.

Catamaran Build – OUR SECOND CONTAINER HAS ARRIVED!! (MJ Sailing – Ep 198)

The clock is running, and we have 2 hours to unload all the remaining components for our boat!! Plus, we get to do it on one of the hottest days of the year, which is quite a change from the windchills we experienced during the first container unload.

Luckily we have a few sets of extra hands with us: Patron Greg Guthman, new friend Tom Cason, and also @Taylor’stravels, who happened to be in town for a few days.

It’s so exciting to see all the moulded components for the exterior of our boat coming out, but the question is – where are we going to put it all!?

CATAMARAN BUILD – Reinforcing Our Cockpit Bulkhead (MJ Sailing – Ep 196)

It’s time to work on the bulkhead which separates our salon and cockpit, and we’re going all out on extra fiberglass re-enforcements.

Although *both* sides will get beefed up a little bit, in this episode we focus on the inner facing side of the bulkhead, which will be the entrance to our two queen bunks in the hulls, and will be the aft portion of our salon on the bridge deck.

But, to get away from the work and the heat a little bit, we go for a dreamy sail out of Annapolis on the beautiful Woodwind II. Before we tell you where you may know this boat from, see if you can pick out where you’ve seen it before!

CATAMARAN BUILD – Bonding Bulkheads – Preparation is Key!! (MJ Sailing – Ep 195)

We’re surrounded by big bulkheads, and now it’s time to get the first one glassed in to the bridge deck.

We do a little jumping around in this episode, giving features to three of our biggest bulkheads. Matt does a quick explanation of #6, which will lead into our cockpit, before we give the grand tour of how things are laid out in our galley and salon – now that we have it all marked on the floor. 🙂

And after some trimming of bulkhead 4 to get it to fit into place *just right* we spend an afternoon adding the coves and fiberglass to permanently bond it to the deck.

Oh, and Georgie even makes a cute cameo at the end!

Tune in to see how things are shaping up!

CATAMARAN BUILD – Welcome To My Shower (MJ Sailing – Ep 194)

The BIG bulkheads are going in!! And now we have walls and doors that make up the shower in our owner’s hull.

This next episode I love for two reasons. One, is I finally got around to adding a BUNCH of images and renders for you to see how the boat should look as we progress. The second is..

The BIG bulkheads are going in!! And now we have walls and doors that make up the shower in our owner’s hull. A very big feat for us because not only do we begin to see how the different areas in the catamaran are beginning to lay out, but we also managed to do this with our own four hands. A task we’d been somewhat dreading for weeks (just the thought of getting monstrous boards of foam into place), but it all worked out with a little team work.

Tune in to see how things are shaping up!

We hope you enjoy!

This video has some very exciting news!! Our first bulkheads are getting installed! They’re not the transverse ones which will split up our living space, but instead they are bulkheads 2 & 3, which divide up some of the storage in the forward hulls.

Matt makes sure that all is level and spaced properly before we permanently bond. The first step is to create a filet/cove with thickened resin, and then on top of that we add our two layers of 45/45 double biased fiberglass. Things are really changing around here, and we can’t wait to show you a special 360 video tour next week!

We Have a SECRET SIDE PROJECT (MJ Sailing – Ep 192)

Not only do we have the catamaran build happening in the tent, but there’s another secret project that we’ve been working on lately.

While I turn my attention towards that for a few days, Matt is still busy inside of the tent preparing for our bulkheads to go in. Now the unidirectional is in place and we have the alignment on hulls of where they’re supposed to sit, they just need to be trimmed into place.

Luckily, the laser needed for this was much easier to see this time! Stay tuned next week for when our first bulkheads get permanently installed!

We hope you enjoy!
